Moisture can damage your floors quicker than just about anything else. To keep your floors looking beautiful for as long as possible, follow these five simple rules regarding water.

1. Never damp mop a wood floor. Always, use a minimum amount of water, as water causes deterioration of the wood itself, as well as the finish.
   
2. Avoid using mops or cloths that leave excessive water on the floor.
   
3. Never let a spill of water dry on the floor.
   
4. Control humidity levels — use a dehumidifier or humidifier. You may need to use a portable unit in some rooms.
   
5. Do not clean wood floors with water or water-based products on a regular basis. Clean only when necessary and only the soiled areas
